Twelfth Night Persuasive Essay
Please write a three- four page persuasive essay (double spaced) on one of any of the following questions. Remember to argue the point with effective language and make specific reference to the play’s text to justify your opinions and arguments (ie. using effective quotes, referring to specific events or character’s actions/thoughts). Finally, edit your work carefully for spelling, grammar and clarity of ideas.
Choose ONE of the following questions:
1) Twelfth Night shows various portrayals of women in regards to beauty, intelligence and wealth/status. After critically comparing and reflecting on all three components, who do you think is the most ‘ideal’ woman in the play: Olivia, Maria or Viola?
2) Is Viola a portrayal of a strong, determined woman or a weak, submissive coward?
3) What forms of love are explored in the play? In your opinion, which character displays the truest form of love? Be sure to give reasons for your answer.
