Grade 8 SS Test

Grade 8 Unit 1 Social Studies Test on Thursday, March 5th.
The test will include questions on Chapters 1, 3 & 5. Some important concepts are:
- The three types of settlement patterns, examples of where they occur and reasons why people settle in specific ways.
- Homestead Act of 1872
- The significance of railroads and rivers in settlement
- High order, mid order and low order services
- The site and situation of settlements
- The four types of sites on which towns may grow and the benefits of each type of site.
- Two reasons why some cities grow and others do not.
- Urbanization
- Developing and Developed countries (including examples of each).
- Patterns of urbanization.
- Population pyramids.
- How birth rate affects a country and reasons why some countries tend to have high/low birth rates
- How to calculate birth rate & death rate.
