 Academic Curriculum

Curriculum simply refers to the group of subjects taught at a school. Out of that listing come certain criteria as to the content, expectations, concepts, and requirements for the successful completion of a particular area of study. All schools develop and then proceed to deliver the program in various ways. Within the Ontario system the vast numbers of private schools follow the Ministry of Education guidelines in order to establish a course of study. At QCC, the Ministry guidelines are considered minimum guidelines as we strive to ensure our students are provided with a more in-depth program.

The public guidelines are devoid of God. Our school believes in the existence of God and therefore the world around us allows for our students to explore, investigate, discover, and initiate thought from that foundation. It causes the curriculum to be developed in a completely different way. We do not try to “fit” God into the subject matter, but rather He allows us to discover His creation and concepts that He put in place.

Our students live in a real world and therefore it is incumbent upon us to make sure students see the relevancy in their learning. Connecting concepts and ideas are the keys to learning. When students (or for that matter any learner) begin to see the relevancy of the material, there tends to be an emotional buy-in to the ideas and thoughts, which causes long-term memory to be activated. This type of learning is the desired outcome, as it produces life-long learners as opposed to the “quick fix learning”, which only ensures an exam/test is passed. Students learn in a variety of ways and we endeavour to provide opportunities for students to develop their talents in their area of strengths, while at the same time encouraging them to stretch beyond their comfort level. QCC uses a variety of material within the program in order to give a broad based approach to the curriculum.
